From Medicine to Watchmaking
1984 yılında Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi'nden mezun olan Dr. Mehmet Ataman, aynı üniversitenin KBB ve Baş-Boyun Cerrahisi Ana Bilim Dalı'nda uzmanlık eğitimini tamamlamış ve öğretim görevlisi olarak çalışmıştır. 1993'ten bu yana serbest hekim olarak görev yapmakta; 2001'den beri de ODTÜ İşletme Bölümü'nde part-time öğretim görevlisi olarak “Managerial Judgement & Decision Making” ve “Negotiation” dersleri vermektedir.
2000 yılında hobi olarak başladığı değerli saat bakım ve tamiri, zamanla ustalık düzeyinde bir tutkuya dönüştü. Bu yolculukta İsviçre Neuchâtel'deki WOSTEP okulunda ve ABD'deki AWCI enstitüsünde kapsamlı eğitimler aldı; geniş bir horoloji (saat bilimi) kütüphanesi ve modern cihazlarla donatılmış bir atölye kurdu.
Değerli ve antika saat bakım-onarım sanatının dünyada giderek azalan sayıda usta tarafından sürdürüldüğü bilinciyle; cerrahi disiplinin hassasiyetini saatçiliğin inceliğiyle birleştirerek, bu sanatı atölyesinde bir tutku olarak yaşatmaktadır.

A graduate of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (1984), Dr. Mehmet Ataman completed his residency in Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the same institution, where he also served as a faculty member. He has been in private practice since 1993, and since 2001 has taught “Managerial Judgement & Decision Making” and “Negotiation” part-time at METU's Department of Business Administration.
What began as a hobby in 2000 — the care and repair of fine mechanical watches — grew into a mastery-level passion. Along the way he trained extensively at WOSTEP in Neuchâtel, Switzerland and at the AWCI institute in the USA, building a comprehensive horological library and a workshop equipped with modern instruments.
Aware that the art of servicing fine and antique timepieces survives in the hands of ever fewer masters worldwide, he brings a surgeon's precision to the watchmaker's craft, keeping this art alive in his workshop as a labour of love.
